# Storage and retention

See where backups are stored and how long your plan keeps them.

Two cards near the bottom of Settings show where your backups are kept and for how long. You can read them, but not edit them. Your backups are always stored by the app.

## Where backups are stored

The card **Where backups are stored** shows **Managed by the app**. The app stores your backups securely for you. You do not need to set anything up.

## How long backups are kept

The card **How long backups are kept** shows:

| Row | What it means |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Your plan** | The name of your plan and how many days it keeps backups, for example "30 days". Some plans show **Kept until you delete them**. |
| **Oldest backup** | The date of your oldest backup. |
| **Deleted items kept for** | How many days items you deleted from your store stay available to restore. Shown when your plan has a retention window. |

Under the rows you also see a note that your most recent backup is always kept, even after it expires. Plans that keep more than one say, for example, "Your 3 most recent backups are always kept, even after they expire."

### Retention by plan

| Plan | Backups kept | Most recent backups always kept | Deleted items kept |
| ------- | ------------ | ------------------------------- | ------------------ |
| Free | 7 days | 1 | 30 days |
| Starter | 30 days | 1 | 90 days |
| Growth | 90 days | 3 | 90 days |
| Pro | 365 days | 7 | 180 days |

Check the [Compare plans](/backup-and-restore-tipo/plans-and-billing/plans/compare-plans.md) page for current plan details.

## Keep backups longer

You can't change retention directly. It follows your plan. Click **Change plan** in the card heading to open the plans page.

{% hint style="info" %}
Backups older than your plan allows are deleted automatically. To remove backups yourself, see [Delete all backups](/backup-and-restore-tipo/settings/settings/delete-all-backups.md).
