# Glossary

Definitions of the terms used across Backup & Restore Tipo and these docs.

Look up the words you see in the app and in these docs. Terms are in alphabetical order.

## A

**Already matched**: A restore result meaning the item in your store already has the same content as the backup, so the app left it alone.

**Always-kept backups**: The newest backups that your plan keeps even after they pass the retention limit. See [Where your data is stored and for how long](/backup-and-restore-tipo/reference/permissions-and-data/data-storage-and-retention.md).

## B

**Backup**: A saved copy of the data types you turned on, taken at one point in time. You can browse, compare, download and restore it.

**Backup version**: The saved state of one item (for example one product) in one backup. An item that changed has several versions over time.

## C

**Conflict**: A restore result meaning the app could not safely write an item, for example because something it depends on is missing or the live item changed. The item is reported so you can review it.

**Cutoff**: The point in time a backup covers up to. For an incremental backup, it is the moment from which the app looks for changes since the last backup.

## D

**Data type**: A kind of store data, such as products, collections, pages, themes, files or customers. You turn data types on or off in Settings.

**Deleted item**: An item that was in an earlier backup but no longer exists in your live store. You can restore it while your plan still keeps it.

**Download link**: A link to a .zip file with an exported backup. It expires after 24 hours. See [Download link settings](/backup-and-restore-tipo/settings/settings/download-links.md).

## F

**Full re-scan**: A backup that reads everything again instead of only what changed, to make sure nothing was missed.

## I

**Incremental**: A backup that only reads what changed since the previous one, which makes it faster. Each backup is still a complete restore point.

## L

**Live store**: Your Shopify store as it is right now, as opposed to a saved backup.

## P

**Partly restored**: A restore status meaning some items were restored and some were not. Open the results to see which ones need attention.

**Paused**: A state where backups stop running, for example when you reach your plan limit. See [Usage and plan limits](/backup-and-restore-tipo/plans-and-billing/plans/usage-and-limits.md).

## R

**Re-created**: A restore result meaning the item did not exist in your live store, so the app created it again from the backup.

**Restore**: Writing data from a backup back into your live store.

**Restore point**: A backup you can restore from. Each completed backup is a restore point.

**Retention**: How long the app keeps your backups and deleted items. It depends on your plan.

## S

**Safety backup**: A backup the app takes automatically just before a restore, so you can undo the restore if needed. It appears in your backups with the trigger **Pre-restore**. See [Safety backups and undoing a restore](/backup-and-restore-tipo/restore/restore/safety-backups.md).

**Snapshot**: Another word for the state of your store in one backup.

## T

**Trigger**: What started a backup. **Scheduled** means it ran on your schedule, **Manual** means you started it with **Back up now**, and **Pre-restore** means it is a safety backup taken before a restore.
