# Where your data is stored and for how long

Where backups are stored, how long each kind of data is kept, and how to delete it yourself.

This page explains what Backup & Restore Tipo keeps, how long it keeps it, and how you can remove it.

## Where your backups are stored

The app stores your backups securely for you. In Settings, the **Where backups are stored** card shows **Managed by the app**. You do not need to set up or pay for separate storage. See [Storage and retention](/backup-and-restore-tipo/settings/settings/storage-and-retention.md).

## What a backup contains

A backup holds the data types you turned on in Settings, such as products, collections, pages, themes and files. By default every data type is on.

Some data types contain personal information about your shoppers:

* **Customers** include names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, notes and customer metafields.
* **Orders** include the shopper details attached to each order.

If you do not want this data in your backups, turn **Customers** or **Orders** off in Settings. This affects future backups only. Backups you already made keep what they hold until they expire or you delete them.

Shopify hides most of a gift card code and gives the app only its last four characters. That is not enough to recreate a gift card. Data that another app keeps on its own servers is not part of your Shopify data, so no backup app can capture it.

## How long backups are kept

How long the app keeps a backup depends on your plan.

| Plan    | Backups kept | Most recent backups always kept | Deleted items kept |
| ------- | ------------ | ------------------------------- | ------------------ |
| Free    | 7 days       | 1                               | 30 days            |
| Starter | 30 days      | 1                               | 90 days            |
| Growth  | 90 days      | 3                               | 90 days            |
| Pro     | 365 days     | 7                               | 180 days           |

* **Backups kept** is how many days a backup stays before the app deletes it.
* **Most recent backups always kept** means those newest backups are kept even after they pass the limit, so you always have something to restore from.
* **Deleted items kept** is how long an item you deleted from your store stays available to restore.

## Temporary files

Some files exist only for a short time:

| File                                          | How long it lasts                  |
| --------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------- |
| Download links and the .zip files behind them | 24 hours, then the file is deleted |
| A backup .zip you upload to restore from      | 24 hours                           |

## Delete your data yourself

You can delete every backup at any time from Settings with **Delete all backups**. Deleting is permanent. Download anything you might need first. See [Delete all backups](/backup-and-restore-tipo/settings/settings/delete-all-backups.md).

## When you uninstall
