# Usage and plan limits

Track products and storage against your plan, and learn what happens when you go over.

See how much of your plan you use, get a warning before you reach a limit, and know what to do if backups pause.

## Check your usage

On **Home**, the **Plan & usage** card shows your plan name and your usage. Select **View plan** to open the **Plans** page.

| Line | What it shows |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Products in store** | The number of products against your plan limit, for example "1,200 / 2,000", with a meter. |
| **Storage used** | The size of your stored backups against your plan limit, with a meter. |
| **Stored** | How many backups you have stored. |
| **Retention** | How long backups are kept, for example "30 days". |

You can also see how long backups are kept in **Settings**, in the **How long backups are kept** card.

## What counts toward your limits

* **Products** are the products your store has right now, as tracked by your backups. Products you deleted from your store don't count. You can sit exactly at the limit.
* **Storage** is the total size of your stored backups. Reaching the limit counts as full.

## Get a warning before you reach a limit

When you reach 90% of your product limit or your storage limit, the app emails you. The email subject reads like "You're at 90% of your Growth plan's storage limit". It is sent once. The app sends it again only if your usage drops below 80% and later climbs back up.

To turn this email on or off, open **Settings**, find **Send an email when**, and use the **You're close to your plan limit** option. See [Email notifications](/backup-and-restore-tipo/settings/settings/notifications.md).

When you review a restore and your storage is nearly full, the review shows: **Your backup storage is nearly full.** The safety backup that runs before the restore may take your store over its plan.

## When you go over a limit

If your store is over its plan, **Home** and the restore screens show a red banner: **Backups and restores are paused**.

The banner says: "Your store is over what the {Plan} plan includes. Nothing you've already backed up is deleted — upgrade or free up space to resume." It lists the limit you passed, for example **Storage: {used} used, {limit} included** or **Products: {number}, {limit} included**.

| What happens | Details |
| ------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| New backups pause | Automatic and on-demand backups don't start. |
| New restores pause | The safety backup that a restore takes first is the exception. |
| Your data stays | Nothing you already backed up is deleted. |
| You get an email | The email "Backups and restores are paused: your {Plan} plan limit is reached" is sent when your store goes over its plan. |

{% hint style="info" %}
The banner has no dismiss button. It disappears when your store is back within its plan.
{% endhint %}

## Resume backups and restores

Choose one of these:

* **Upgrade.** Select **View plans** in the banner and pick a bigger plan. See [Change or cancel your plan](/backup-and-restore-tipo/plans-and-billing/plans/change-your-plan.md).
* **Free up storage.** Remove backups you no longer need, for example with [Delete all backups](/backup-and-restore-tipo/settings/settings/delete-all-backups.md).
* **Reduce products.** If you are over the product limit, remove products you no longer sell from your store.

Backups and restores resume once your usage is back within the plan limits.

## Fastest backup schedule on each plan

Your plan also sets how often automatic backups can run. In **Settings**, options faster than your plan allows are shown but can't be selected.

| Plan | Every 6 hours | Every 12 hours | Every day | Every week |
| ---------------- | ------------- | -------------- | --------- | ---------- |
| Free and Starter | Not available | Not available | Available | Available |
| Growth | Not available | Available | Available | Available |
| Pro | Available | Available | Available | Available |

See [Backup schedule](/backup-and-restore-tipo/settings/settings/backup-schedule.md).
